This book is a great entry for non-design people to understand why the Harvard Business Review, Business Week and WSJ are writing so much about the value of Design Thinking and creativity in business. It clearly explains the social shift that we’re going though. And most importantly what the impact is on profit and non-profit organization.
Most of the examples have some kind of “online” aspect to it. Of course most of the experience happen when you’re not behind a computer screen. The writers address this issue but someone who’s completely new to the topic might get stuck with the impression that experience design only applies to online services. That would be a shame as core of the book does a great job in explaining why our society needs people with a different mindset.
I’d like to see more examples that didn’t have anything to do with the internet, online or mobile phones. Just to cover the full spectrum. It would have been great if a project like Dott07 would have gotten some attention.
All in all Subject to Change is definitely on my top 3 list of books I’ve read in 2008.
